Prairie Harvest depicts the excitement of the season when farmers are bringing their crops in off the field. It is always a time of busyness and hurrying, mixed with much relief and gladness when the harvest is finished. This composition utilizes several quick and dramatic hand crossings. It is great for working on balance as the melody is presented in each hand. The piece explores various pentascales in the middle section, but a lot of rhythmic and melodic repetition make it easy to learn for the early intermediate pianist.
